One-to-one care
Individual Therapy in Charlotte, NC
A room, an hour, and someone whose only job is to help you understand what is actually going on. Individual therapy gives you space to slow down, name what you are carrying, and leave with something practical to try before the next session.

You might be here because
- The anxiety never fully switches off, even on good days
- You are functioning at work but running on empty underneath it
- Something happened, and you have never really processed it
- You keep repeating a pattern you can see clearly and still cannot stop
- You have lost the thread of who you are outside your responsibilities
- You are grieving, and the people around you have moved on
Recognize several of these? That is usually reason enough to start a conversation. Request an appointment →
What individual therapy actually looks like here
Therapy at Charlotte Therapy Associates is collaborative and goal-oriented. Your therapist is not there to hand down interpretations. They are there to help you see the shape of your own patterns and decide what you want to do about them.
We are deliberate about this because supportive and effective are not the same thing. A good session should feel like you were heard. It should also leave you with something you did not have when you walked in.
What we work on
- Anxiety, worry and panic
- Depression and persistent low mood
- Adult ADHD and executive function
- Burnout and chronic work stress
- Trauma and post-traumatic stress
- Grief, loss and bereavement
- Major life transitions, moves, careers, divorce, empty nest
- Self-esteem and self-criticism
- Boundaries and people-pleasing
- Emotional regulation and anger
- Relationship patterns, even when you come alone
- Identity, meaning and direction
The arc of the work
- 01
Consultation
A first conversation about what brought you here, what you have already tried, and what you want to be different. We also make sure the therapist match is right. If it is not, we will say so and help you find a better one.
- 02
Goals and a plan
Together you define what success looks like and the steps toward it. Goals evolve; that is expected. What does not change is that they stay yours.
- 03
The working middle
Skill-building, pattern work, practice and problem-solving. This is where most of the change happens, and where consistency matters more than intensity.
- 04
Review and taper
We check progress against the goals you set, adjust what is not working, and plan for maintenance rather than an abrupt stop.
How long does it take?
It depends on what you are working on. Some people come for a focused stretch of six to twelve sessions with a specific goal. Others stay longer for deeper patterns, or move to monthly maintenance once the acute part has settled.
Most clients start weekly. We will talk openly about frequency rather than defaulting to it, and we will tell you when we think you are ready to space sessions out.
What changes
What clients tend to notice
- Lower baseline anxiety and fewer spirals
- Language for what you feel, before it becomes a crisis
- Boundaries you can hold without guilt
- A clearer sense of what you want and why

Individual Therapy: questions we are asked
How do I know if I need therapy?
If you are asking the question, it is usually worth a conversation. You do not need a diagnosis or a crisis to benefit, plenty of our clients come because something is persistently off and they would rather address it now than in two years.
What if I have never talked to anyone before?
Most first-time clients say the same thing, and it is genuinely fine. Your therapist will lead the first session. You do not have to arrive with your story organized or know where to start.
Do you accept insurance for individual therapy?
Yes. We are in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO plans and Aetna. Other plans are out-of-network and we can provide superbills for reimbursement. Self-pay is $155 per individual session, with package discounts available.
Can I do individual therapy online?
Yes. We offer secure, HIPAA-compliant video sessions to anyone located in North Carolina or South Carolina, and many clients mix in-person and virtual depending on the week.
Will you put a diagnosis in my record?
Only if you use insurance, which requires one. Self-pay clients are not required to receive or report a diagnosis, which is one reason some clients choose to pay privately.
