Frequently asked
The questions people ask before they call.
If yours is not here, call 704-705-4550 or send us a message. We would rather answer it now than have it be the reason you put this off another month.

01Starting out
Starting out
I have never talked to anyone. Is going to therapy a sign of weakness?
No. People who ask for help are generally the ones who recognized they needed it and had the nerve to act. Everyone needs help now and then. In our work together we will identify your existing strengths and put them to use against the problem you are facing.
Does counseling actually help?
Yes, and the evidence is strong. Across decades of outcome research, people who engage in therapy do substantially better than comparable people who do not. It is not magic. It depends on fit, on consistency, and on the work you do between sessions, but it works.
What is the difference between talking to a therapist and talking to a good friend?
Training, neutrality and confidentiality. A friend loves you and has a stake in the outcome. A therapist can teach you skills, offer perspectives you cannot see from inside the situation, and listen without expectation. There is also the practical issue that once you feel better, people sometimes avoid the friend who witnessed them at their worst.
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you are feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or struggling in your relationships, therapy can help you gain clarity and relief. You do not need a diagnosis or a crisis. Plenty of our clients come because something is persistently off and they would rather address it now.
Do you offer therapy in Charlotte, NC?
Yes. Our office is at 5200 Park Rd., Suite 219 in SouthPark, Charlotte, NC 28209, with free surface parking. We also provide secure video sessions to anyone located in North Carolina or South Carolina.
How do I know which therapist is right for me?
Tell us what is going on and we will match you. Each of our clinicians has trained deeply in a specific area, so the recommendation is based on your situation rather than on who has the next opening. Read the profiles too, if someone resonates, ask for them by name.
How soon can I get an appointment?
We aim to schedule new clients as quickly as possible, often within a few days. Evening appointments run Monday through Friday until 8:00 PM.
What happens in a first session?
Your therapist covers confidentiality and logistics, then asks what brought you in. Expect questions about what is happening now, how long it has been going on, what you have already tried, and what you want to be different. Most people leave with an initial plan and something concrete to try.
02How therapy works
How therapy works
What do I have to do in sessions?
It depends on you and your goals, our clinicians tailor the approach rather than running a script. Broadly: talk about what is going on, notice patterns with help, learn and practice skills, and do a small amount of work between sessions.
How long will therapy take?
Honestly, it varies. A focused goal might resolve in six to twelve sessions. Deeper patterns, complex trauma or long-standing relationship difficulty take longer. What we can promise is that we will review progress with you openly rather than letting it drift indefinitely.
How do I get the most out of therapy?
Come consistently, be honest, including about what is not working in the therapy itself, and practice between sessions. The hour matters, but the other 167 are where most of the change happens.
Why not just take medication?
Medication can be genuinely effective and it does not, on its own, resolve patterns, relationships or skills. For some conditions the combination of therapy and medication outperforms either alone. We do not prescribe, but we coordinate with your physician or psychiatrist when that is useful.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes, with the standard legal and ethical exceptions, principally risk of serious harm to yourself or someone else, and suspected abuse of a child or vulnerable adult. Your therapist will explain these fully in your first session.
What if my therapist is not the right fit?
Tell us. Fit is the strongest single predictor of outcome in therapy research, and it is not a personal failing on anyone's part when it does not click. We have six clinicians with genuinely different styles and we will move you internally without any awkwardness.

We are in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO plans and Aetna. All other plans are out-of-network and we can provide superbills for reimbursement. See our rates and insurance page for the full picture.
How much does therapy cost?
Self-pay rates are $185 for intake, $155 per individual session and $170 per couples or family session. Packages of 3, 6 and 12 sessions are discounted. For ADHD evaluation, contact us for current pricing.
Do you offer in-person and telehealth?
Both. Our office is at 5200 Park Rd., Suite 219 in SouthPark, Charlotte, and we offer secure video sessions to clients located anywhere in North Carolina. Select clinicians are also licensed in South Carolina.
Do I need to download anything for telehealth?
No. Our platform is HIPAA-compliant and runs in a standard browser on a computer, tablet or phone. You will get a secure link before the appointment.
Do you offer therapy in Spanish?
Yes. Angie Baquedano, MA, LMFT is fluent in English and Spanish and works with individuals, couples and families in both.
What ages do you work with?
Preteens, teens and adults, depending on the clinician. Kelly Roberson sees clients 16 and older. For young children we generally refer to a play-therapy specialist.
What is your cancellation policy?
Twenty-four hours' notice, or the full session fee applies. Insurance does not cover missed appointments.
Do you prescribe medication?
No. Our clinicians are licensed therapists and counselors, not prescribers. We work alongside your physician or psychiatrist and can refer you to one if that would help.
