Adult ADHD
Adult ADHD Therapy & Evaluation in Charlotte, NC
Diagnosed at 38 and suddenly the last two decades make sense. Adult ADHD therapy is about building systems that fit your brain rather than continuing to fail at systems built for someone else's.

Adult ADHD often shows up as
- Chronic lateness, missed deadlines and a shifting pile of half-finished things
- Intense focus on the interesting and total paralysis on the necessary
- Emotional intensity and rejection sensitivity
- A mind that will not quiet down at bedtime
- Years of being called lazy, scattered or not applying yourself
- Exhausting compensation strategies that mostly work, at great cost
- Relationship friction over forgotten tasks and unequal load

Evaluation and treatment
We offer ADHD evaluation, and Kelly Roberson holds credentialing as an ADHD-Clinical Services Provider. Contact us for current evaluation pricing. If you already have a diagnosis, we can skip straight to the work.
Therapy for adult ADHD is largely practical: externalizing memory, designing environments that make the right action easy, and building routines around your actual energy patterns rather than an idealized version of them. Alongside that, there is usually a real amount of grief and shame to unpack, most adults diagnosed late are carrying decades of the belief that they simply were not trying hard enough.
What we address
- Executive function, planning, initiation, time and task management
- Emotional dysregulation and rejection sensitive dysphoria
- Late diagnosis, grief and identity
- Anxiety and depression that commonly accompany ADHD
- Workplace performance, accommodations and career fit
- ADHD in relationships and the parent-child dynamic it can create
- Parenting with ADHD, and parenting a child with ADHD
- Sleep, routine and the revenge bedtime procrastination pattern
ADHD in couples
When one partner has ADHD, the relationship often drifts into a parent-child dynamic that neither person wanted. The non-ADHD partner takes over logistics and grows resentful; the ADHD partner feels constantly monitored and criticized, and withdraws.
Because we work in both couples therapy and ADHD, we can treat the pattern rather than the symptom list, redistributing the load in a way that accounts for how each brain actually functions.
What changes
What clients tend to notice

Adult ADHD & Executive Function: questions we are asked
Do you diagnose ADHD in adults?
We offer ADHD evaluation, call us at 704-705-4550 for current pricing and availability. If a comprehensive psychological or neuropsychological battery is indicated, we will refer you to a trusted specialist.
Can you prescribe ADHD medication?
No. Our clinicians are therapists rather than prescribers. We work alongside your physician or psychiatrist and can provide documentation that supports their decision-making.
Is therapy useful if I am already medicated?
Very. Medication generally helps with attention and impulsivity; it does not build the systems, repair the self-concept or fix the relationship dynamics. Those are what therapy is for.
Can ADHD show up for the first time in adulthood?
ADHD begins in childhood, but it is frequently missed, particularly in women and in people who were academically capable. What changes in adulthood is that the demands finally exceed the compensation strategies.
