This is for you if

  • You are the default parent, the default planner, the default everything
  • You say yes automatically and resent it quietly
  • Your internal monologue would horrify you if a friend spoke to you that way
  • You cannot remember what you actually enjoy
  • You are successful and exhausted in roughly equal measure
  • You feel responsible for managing everyone else's emotions

The particular weight women carry

The pressure to meet everyone's expectations is not imagined, and it does not resolve by trying harder. It shows up as anxiety, as irritability that surprises you, as burnout that a weekend does not fix, and often as a quiet disappearance of the person you used to be.

Therapy for women at Charlotte Therapy Associates is a place to put that down long enough to look at it. Sometimes being heard without having to manage the listener's reaction is itself the intervention.

Therapy for Women: questions we are asked

Do I have to see a woman therapist?

Not at all. It is entirely your preference. Five of our six clinicians are women, and we will match you based on fit and specialty rather than assumption.

Is this different from regular individual therapy?

The format is the same. The difference is a clinician who recognizes the specific patterns, the mental load, the guilt reflex, the identity erosion, without you having to explain that they are real.

I do not have a crisis. Is it still worth coming?

Yes. A great deal of the best work happens with people who are functioning and would like to stop white-knuckling it.

Do you offer sessions in Spanish?

Yes. Angie Baquedano, LMFT, practices in English and Spanish.
